WASHINGTON, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Third seed Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic maintained her dominance of her rivalry against American Alison Riske with a hard fought 6-4, 6-7(4), 6-2 victory and made the third round at the Rogers Cup WTA tournament on Wednesday.

The result extends the former world No. 1's mastery of her head-to-head against Riske to 7-1 overall, including a six match winning streak.

Pliskova clinically made her way to a 6-4, 4-1 lead, but Riske mounted a surging comeback to take the second set after winning the tiebreak. Pliskova stayed calm and doninated her opponent again in the third set 6-2 for the eventual victory.

"We always have tough matches together, so I knew it was going to be tough. She's a tough competitor. It's going to be similar today. She's fighting, she's playing good tennis from the baseline," Pliskova said after the match.

"It looked easy, I think for a set and a half, and I think I was too relaxed in the middle of the second. She just came up with some good serves, some good shots. But after I put in just a little bit of energy, I went with good shots and good serves and it was much better in the third set."
