Migrant employment rates report by Eurostat shows varied results among EU countries

BRUSSELS, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Migrant employment rates of the European Union (EU) countries were varied in 2018 with the highest rate of 84 percent for persons born outside the EU recorded in the Czech Republic while the lowest rate of 54 percent in the same category recorded in Belgium, report by Eurostat, the EU's statistical office, showed on Tuesday.

For those born outside the EU, the employment rate was highest in the Czech Republic with 84 percent, followed by Slovakia 81 percent, Malta 80 percent, Romania 78 percent, Poland 77 percent and Portugal 76 percent.

Among the EU Member States, Britain had the highest employment rate for persons born in another EU Member State with 86 percent, closely followed by Portugal with 84 percent, Sweden 83 percent, Malta 81 percent and Germany 80 percent.

The highest employment rates for the native-born population were recorded in Sweden with 87 percent, Germany and the Netherlands, both at 82 percent, Estonia 81 percent and Denmark 80 percent.

In contrast, Belgium had the lowest employment rate for persons born outside the EU with 54 percent, while Greece recorded the lowest employment rates for persons born elsewhere in the EU with 55 percent and the native-born population with 60 percent.

In an overall picture, the EU employment rate of persons aged 20-64 years was 65 percent among persons born outside the EU, 74 percent among the native-born population, and 77 percent for persons born in another EU Member State, says the report.
