CHANGSHA, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Since she became a coordinator of organ donation two years ago, Meng Fengyu sees death not an end, but a restart of life.

As a coordinator in central China's Hunan Province, Meng seldom wears bright-colored clothing, as she needs to be ready any time to communicate the proposal of organ donation with relatives of critical patients at intensive care units (ICU).

It is not an easy job. Meng has attended dozens of funerals during the two years as a coordinator of organ donation. Her appearance at the ICUs will be interpreted as the sign of passing away of patients by the medical staff.

"I feel like I am regarded as death," she said.

It is a meaningful job. In 2017, Meng helped complete an organ donation of Ye Sha, a 16-year-old donor who died of accidental cerebrovascular rupture, which saved five people ranging from 14 to 54 years old.

The donees formed a basketball team in the all-star match of the Women's Chinese Basketball Association (WCBA) this year, all wearing jerseys with the same name of Ye Sha on the back, in memory of the 16-year-old basketball lover.

Meng bought Ye a baseball hat since his head was shaved after the operation of organ donation.

"I want him to still be most handsome in heaven," she said.

In 2018, the organ donation of a one-year-old baby that Meng dealt with saved two people suffering from uremia and helped them regain sight.

"The parents of the baby said thanks to me and my colleagues because we let their baby live in another way," she said.

Her job of coordinator is not finished even if the operation of organ donation is completed. She often visits the relatives of organ donors, treating them as friends and family.

Meng has helped complete 90 organ donations since 2017.

"The conditions of organ donation are improving in China," she said. "We have gained more and more understanding and respect instead of abuse from the relatives of organ donors."

There are more than 1.22 million people registered as voluntary organ donors, along with over 23,000 organ donations completed as of April 21, 2019, according to the China Organ Donation Administrative Center.
