TAIPEI, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) -- In Taiwan, 75.84 percent of employees are considering taking part-time jobs during this year's Spring Festival holiday which starts on Feb. 5, indicating shrinking salaries as a major reason, a survey released by Taiwan's 1111 Job Bank has shown.

Nearly 49 percent of the respondents said they felt unable to make ends meet on their current salaries, nearly 35 percent said it was much easier to secure a part-time job during the holiday, and almost 30 percent said they just want to save more money.

The average monthly salary in Taiwan was 38,179 new Taiwan dollars (1,246 U.S. dollars) from January to November in 2018, even lower than the average monthly salary of 38,320 new Taiwan dollars in the same period in 2001, according to the island's statistical authority.

More than 23 percent of those surveyed said they preferred catering services, and nearly 23 percent opted to sell Spring Festival themed items when looking for a part-time job, followed by administrative and shop assistant jobs and working as a courier.

In addition, 62 percent said they would show more filial piety to parents with their salaries during the holiday, nearly 12 percent would choose recreation and entertainment and others go out dining or traveling with family members.

A working employee is expected to earn 11,161 new Taiwan dollars through part-time jobs during the month before and after the Spring Festival holiday.

The respondents said their average spending on hongbao, or red packets, would be 14,366 new Taiwan dollars during the holiday.

The survey was based on questionnaires completed by 1,076 employed citizens from Jan. 10 to 24.
