KATHMANDU, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- The two-week long "Overseas Seminar on Chinese Language and Culture for Officials from Nepal" concluded in Nepal's capital Kathmandu on Tuesday.

At least 127 participants including teachers and officials from different schools and colleges participated in the seminar sponsored by China's Ministry of Commerce.

The seminar organized by Beijing International Chinese College was focused on sessions on China's history, Chinese language, culture and tradition, festivals, paper cutting and knot classes and Beijing opera among others.

Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Yu Hong, Nepal's Speaker of Parliament Krishna Bahadur Mahara and representative from Ministry of Education attended the concluding ceremony.

The Chinese ambassador said that such training will enable the people of two countries to share and transfer the knowledge and skills and it can help Nepali people to understand more about China.

"Fifteen days is very short but it is a good start. I believe it has opened the window for everyone to know something about China, Chinese language and culture," the ambassador said.

Addressing at the ceremony, Speaker Mahara appreciated the Chinese efforts and said that such seminar will highly contribute to the social transformation of the country.

"Social transformation is the need of today, which can lead the country towards development. And education, in any form, is the major tool of transformation," Mahara said.

He also took the occasion to mention that Belt and Road Initiative is very important for prosperity of Nepal and Nepali people.

"The Belt and Road Initiative envisions economic growth along with social transformation, and we are very much determined for its implementation," Mahara added.

"In this two-week long seminar, besides learning basic signs and language, we also got the knowledge about vast geography of China, vivid culture including intangible heritages and about Chinese advancement in modern technology. We enjoyed each session," Neera Pradhan, a participant teacher from Siddhartha Vanasthali Institute told Xinhua.

According to the organizer, the seminar was first of its kind held at the local level in Nepal and it was a huge success. Provided with certificates, these participants thought each session was useful and helped them get closer with China.
