NAIROBI, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- Kenya's Lawrence Cherono, who won the recent Amsterdam Marathon in 2:04:50, says he wants to run either the Boston or Tokyo Marathon next year.

"My manager will work on it. He knows my intention and hopefully, he will get me a slot to run in either of the two cities," said Cherono in Nairobi on Friday.

In September, Cherono clocked 2:04:05 to erase his previous mark of 2:05:08 set last year in defense of his Amsterdam Marathon.

In April in his first major city marathon, Cherono was relegated to seventh timed at 2:09:25 in London Marathon in a race won by Olympic champion Eliud Kipchoge, who has since gone on to win Berlin in a world record time of 2:01:39.

"I learnt a lot in running against big names in London and I want to test that in another big city race in Tokyo or Boston. If I get an invite, I will give it a try and compete against the best in the world," added Cherono.

"I'm ready to face the best if given the opportunity and I hope I will compete against them next year."

In August he warmed up to Amsterdam race with third place finish at the Buenos Aires Half Marathon clocking 61:58.

However, competing in Olympics is what inspires his running as he aims to win Kenya a medal on the global stage.

Cherono has also competed at the Rotterdam Marathon in 2017 where he was second clocking 2:06:21. He also has silver medals from Hong Kong Marathon and Hengshui Lake Marathon (2:11:14).

In 2015 he was seventh at the Shanghai Marathon and second in Lanzhou Marathon both in China. He also won in Seville, Spain clocking 2:09:39.
