MONTEVIDEO, June 1 (Xinhua) -- The goalkeeper for the Uruguay national team, Fernando Muslera, said on Friday that his country is seeking to reach at least the final of the 2018 World Cup in Russia, although his teammate Nahitan Nandez said the team is going "to become champions."

"We are going with our heats to reach the final," said Muslera at a press conference ahead of the team heading to Russia.

The goalkeeper of Galatasaray in Turkey, aged 31, recognized that he had made "promises" in case of winning the World Cup but refused to reveal them.

"I feel very good. Every qualifying match, every Copa America and World Cup that I get to play with the national team, I feel very happy," said Muslera.

Muslera discussed an injury he sustained to his hand, admitting that it still bothered him but that he had returned to full training.

Under the orders of coach Oscar Tabarez, the 26 players preselected for the team have been training in a covered court due to the persistent rains in Uruguay over the last week.

"If you ask me, Uruguay will become champion but we have to play the World Cup group stage first," added Nandez.

Uruguay has won the World Cup twice before in 1930 and 1950 and the Copa America four times, most recently in 2011. In Russia, it will face Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Russia in Group A.

Ahead of the World Cup, Uruguay will face Uzbekistan on June 7 in a friendly.
