BAGHDAD, May 15 (Xinhua) -- The political coalitions of two major Kurdish parties are leading in the initial results of parliamentary polls in the two remaining provinces of Kirkuk and Dohuk, official figures showed Tuesday.

The figures by the Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) showed the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) was the front-runner, accounting for 90 percent of votes in the ethnically mixed province of Kirkuk with 184,373 votes, while the Arab Coalition came in the second place.

The Turkoman Front of Kirkuk came in the third place, and the al-Nasr Coalition led by Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi came in the fifth place, the figures showed.

In the province of Dohuk in the Kurdish region, IHEC figures showed the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), led by Masoud Barzani, was in the first place, accounting for 89 percent of the votes, while the Kurdistan Islamic Union followed.

The latest announcement showed that KDP kept leading in Erbil and Dohuk, while PUK kept its advance in Sulaimaniyah and Kirkuk.

The total preliminary results of Iraq's 18 provinces showed that the al-Sa'iroon coalition, led by prominent Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, is leading in the total initial results of the country, while al-Fath Coalition, led by Hadi al-Ameri came second.

Millions of Iraqis went to 8,959 polling centers across the country on Saturday to vote for their parliamentary representatives in the first general election after Iraq's historic victory over the Islamic State (IS) group last December.

Some 90 political entities and 7,000 candidates are vying for 329 seats in the parliament.
