BERLIN, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- Simon Terodde's late winner helped Cologne to beat Monchengladbach 2-1 in the Rhine derby while a wasteful Borussia Dortmund was held to a goalless draw by Wolfsburg to complete the 18th round of the Bundesliga season on Sunday.

Last placed Cologne earned a crucial win over rivals Monchengladbach as Simon Terodde's injury-time decider secured their second win of the season.

Monchengladbach grabbed the reins from the kick off and controlled the ball while Cologne focused most of their attention on defending.

However, it was the hosts who opened the scoring against the run of play when Frederik Soerensen tapped home Milos Jojic's long-range freekick in the 34th minute.

Monchengladbach increased the pressure but had to wait until the second half when Raffael restored parity with a follow-up shot from inside the box with 69 minutes on the clock.

Both sides exchanged attacks and could have snatched the win but it was the hosts who scored out of the blue when Terodde headed home Konstantin Rausch's cross in the dying seconds of the game to take all three points for FC Cologne.

Despite the victory, Cologne remains at the bottom with nine points, and an eight-point gap to safety. Monchengladbach remain in 6th place and within touching distance of international competition.

Borussia Dortmund shared the spoils with Wolfsburg following a goalless draw at Signal Iduna Park.

Dortmund had to do it without their prolific striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who has been suspended for disciplinary reasons after missing a team meeting on Saturday.

The "BVB" controlled proceedings on the pitch for most of the game but Dortmund's poor finishing allowed Wolfsburg to snatch one point on the road.

"It is a real shame that we only played out a goalless stalemate despite the number of golden chances we had. I absolutely stand behind Manager Peter Stoeger's decision to suspend Aubameyang. It is the third time [that] he [has] attracted negative attention," Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc said.

With the result, Dortmund slipped from the 3rd to the 4th place. Wolfsburg remain in 12th place.
