HO CHI MINH CITY, June 7 (Xinhua) -- Some 100 charter flights between Vietnam's southern Can Tho city and major cities in China, Japan, South Korea and some other Asian countries will be launched in the coming time, a Vietnamese firm said here on Thursday.

A total of 28 charter flights between Can Tho and Thailand's Bangkok capital will be launched during the June-August period, serving some 5,000 passengers, the World Transportation Services Joint Stock Company (WorldTrans) said, noting that it started the first flight on Can Tho-Bangkok air route on Wednesday.

WorldTrans said it is joining hands with Vietnamese travel agencies to operate more charter flights between Can Tho and major cities in China, Japan and South Korea.

Vietnam's aviation industry served 20.3 million passengers in the first five months of this year, up 14 percent year-on-year, according to the country's General Statistics Office.
